Gujrati Nagar Brahmin Wedding Rituals & Customs

The Gujarati community reflects unbounded enthusiasm in the affairs of matrimonial alliance. Their weddings are organised on a grand scale and their rituals are very colourful. It is important to note that like all Indian communities, there maybe a slight differentiation in matrimonials and rituals performed amongst different Gujarati sects like the Gujarati Naagar Brahmins.

It is interesting to note that unlike most Indian communities where dowry plays a vital role, the Gujaratis have proved to be quite progressive. In case of the Naagar Brahmins, their girls are often married off with no expectations of wealth from the in-laws side. This is called kanku-kanya, meaning that the bride is welcome only with a vermilion mark on her forehead.

Maharastrian Maratha Wedding Rituals & Customs

The Maharashtrian Wedding Rituals & Customs are performed with a lot of gaiety and enthusiasm. Maharashtrian Weddings are performed in proper traditional way and all the rituals are performed by a priest. Hence, the Maharashtrian Wedding Rituals comprise of the typical Hindu wedding rituals. Each stage in the wedding ritual in Maharashtra has some important significance and it is more of a homely affair than a boisterous show. Unlike the other wedding rituals in India, the Maharashtrian Wedding rituals are carried out in day time, mostly in the afternoon. It is rather the wedding that is celebrated in simplest way. It is less lavish than the other weddings in India.

The Maharashtrian Wedding dress is as usual gorgeous and eye catching as the wedding dresses in other communities. The bride wears a conventional Maharashtrian green colored sari. Most commonly the Paithani kind of sari is used. The bride for the wedding wears the typical Maharashtrian seven pearl studs. The bride also wears green bangles, considered to be very fortunate for any function. The bride wears toe rings, pearl and bead nath or the nose ring and a bright bindhi. The groom is dressed in dhoti or salwar and kurta, or sherwani. Wedding feasts are served on banana leaves and people are seated on the floor to enjoy the feast. The bride, the groom, and their families eat on silver plates. Few special Maharashtrian wedding dishes include batata bhaji, pitlai, sheera, varan, shrikhand, vatanyachi usal.

Maharastrian Konkanastha Brahmin Wedding Rituals & Customs

Among the many regional communities living in India, Maharashtrians perhaps have the simplest and least opulent . The process begins with called Lagnaach Bedi. Though these days marriages are quite common, many boys and girls still prefer to go in for marriages arranged by parents. Typically, Maharshtrians go in for marriage alliance between equal status families. However, the marriage alliance is finalized only after matching of the horoscopes by family pundit. Following this, the pundit decides the auspicious date for the wedding

India has a diverse culture of many faiths and religions, which makes it the most unique country in the world. Every religion has its own customs and traditions, which traverse the boundary of religion, cast and creed and India is no different! The Indian customs and rituals attract many tourists to this country. Right from the birth to death, there is hardly any occasion that does not have an elaborate ceremony. Soon after the birth of a child, the Namkaran ceremony is held, which is marked by chanting of slokas and singing of hymns. Even the weddings and festivals are grand affairs in India, as they follow various customs and rituals. The rituals that follow the festivals are very important and are performed with utmost care to provide an aesthetic and spiritual experience to the festival. Even after the death of people, the cremation ceremonies are held according to rituals.

Like other Indian marriages, thewedding rituals and customs of Parsi community are also spread over a couple of days. In Parsi wedding also, the wedding celebrations are divided into three parts- pre wedding rituals, wedding day rituals and post wedding rituals. As marriage is a religious ritual encouraged in the Parsi religion, Parsi people consider marriage to be an occasion of social as well as religious celebrations. If you are keen about knowing the details of the Parsi wedding ceremony, given below is the detailed description of the Parsi marriage traditions from Pre-Marriage to Post Marriage Traditions.
